Get the most out of your time here at UVA and enjoy our many outdoor fields, courts and fitness opportunities. Outdoor venues are available for University students, faculty and staff. All spaces are available for open rec as well as reservations.

Snyder Tennis Center | Map

Located at the entrance to the University of Virginia on the corner of Emmet Street and University Avenue, the 13, lighted tennis/pickleball courts at Snyder Tennis Center is a USTA award-winning hard-court tennis facility. Courts are open daily from dawn until 11:30pm.

Parking is available along University Avenue as well as at the Culbreth Garage or Central Ground Parking Garage.

Carr’s Hill Field (University Ave) | Map

Carr's Hill Field will reopen for reservations and drop in play Monday 9/16. Click here to read the project improvements.

Carr’s Hill Field is a lighted, three acre artificial turf field lined for soccer, lacrosse and field hockey. Carr’s Hill Field host Club Sport practices and competitions along with serving as the practice location for the UVA Cavalier Marching Band. Field open daily from dawn until 30-minutes prior to closure of Memorial Gymnasium.

Parking is available along University Avenue as well as at the Culbreth Garage or Central Ground Parking Garage.

The Park at UVA | Map

Located in the North Grounds area of the University of Virginia, The Park complex is available for use by the entire University community. The Park is an ideal setting for sporting activities, walking/running, tournaments, special events and group picnics. The Park walking path open daily from dawn until dusk; fields require reservations for use. 

Free parking is available before 7:30am and after 5pm M-F and all day on weekends.

Outdoor Fitness Equipment

Outdoor fitness equipment is available at The Park for students and members. The equipment is in a storage container located next to softball field 6 and it will be available from 11am to 8pm Monday-Sunday for on-site use with the occasional closure due to scheduled fitness programs.

Copeley Field (Massie Rd) | Map

Copeley offers a softball field & three half-court basketball courts across from North Grounds Recreation Center. Field and courts open daily from dawn until dusk.

Parking is available across the street at North Grounds Recreation Center.

Lambeth Field (Emmet St) | Map

Lambeth Field is a one and a half acre natural grass field surrounded by the historic UVA Colonnades. Field open daily from dawn until dusk.

Many a lively football game, baseball match, and track meet took place in Lambeth Field in the first years of the 20th century, when it was the University's first and only outdoor athletic location. Spectators sat in the concrete amphitheater, built between 1911 and 1913, topped by a colonnade designed by alumnus R. E. Lee Taylor. The field and the colonnade were named for William A. Lambeth, alumnus, director of athletics and superintendent of buildings and grounds. Lambeth Field is now home for intramural and recreational programming.

Madison Bowl Field (Rugby Road) | Map

Mad Bowl is a three acre natural grass field behind Madison Hall that was renovated in 2005 to provide a Bermuda grass surface with irrigation and drainage. Field open daily from dawn until dusk.

Often called "Mad Bowl," this field was one of the University's original playing fields and became famous for Easter celebrations of the 1960s and '70s.

Parking is available at the Culbreth Parking Garage.

Perry-Fishburne Tennis Courts (Emmet St) | Map

Perry-Fishburne offers four tennis courts and 6 pickleball courts adjacent to Ruffner Hall. Courts open daily from dawn to dusk.

In 2001, these tennis courts, located in the area known as the Dell, took on a name that honors two separate contributions intended to help the University build tennis courts: one from Charlottesville's Perry Foundation, established by Hunter Perry, and the other from alumnus Junius Fishburne

Nameless Fields (Emmet St) | Map

Nameless Fields combined are one and a half acres of recreational grass fields and two sand volleyball courts, adjacent to Memorial Gymnasium. Fields open daily from dawn until dusk; volleyball courts open daily from dawn until 11:30pm.

In the 19th century, a pond made ice skating a popular winter pastime. In the 1920s, the pond was fashioned into an elliptical reflecting pool, which was then filled in to make a field in 1952.

Parking is available along University Avenue as well as at the Culbreth Garage or Central Ground Parking Garage.

MEM Outdoor Basketball Courts (Emmet St) | Map

Three lighted outdoor basketball courts adjacent to Memorial Gymnasium completed in May 2021 to replace the Dell courts. Court open daily from dawn until 11:30pm.

Parking is available along University Avenue as well as at the Culbreth Garage or Central Ground Parking Garage.

MEM Outdoor Fitness Equipment (Emmet St) | Map

Outdoor fitness rig with pull up bars, dip station, sit-up bench and more completed in July 2021 is now available next to Memorial Gymnasium. Equipment open daily from dawn until dusk.

Parking is available along University Avenue as well as at the Culbreth Garage or Central Ground Parking Garage.
